What is dying? What is living? The popular picture book "Dead Pirates" has become a musical theater production written and directed by Seiji Nozoe.
On a night with a crescent moon, a pirate on the boat was stabbed .
He was arrogant all the time.
He pretended to be strong,
But he easily got stabbed because he was always drunk.
(From the picture book "Dead Pirates")
Dead Pirates begins with these stunning lines, unusual for a picture book.
With poetic texts and beautiful illustrations, Dead Pirates makes its readers rethink our lives by depicting death, which cannot be set aside from our lives, and yet we tend not to talk about it. This popular picture book was turned into a theatrical work written and directed by Seiji Nozoe.
What is most important in life? What remains at the end of your life?
Masakatsu Shimoda, author of the original book, takes charge of stage, costume, and prop design. With music composed by Kei Tanaka, an essential part of Nozoe’s work, we deliver the world of the picture book to you this summer in the form of musical theater for both children and adults.
