Let's Begin with the Notion of " Not Being Able to Convey"
We are hosting a theater workshop led by F's Company representative Shuji Fukuda, who conducts workshops all over Japan using verbal and physical communication.
""Why doesn’t our will to communicate always work as we expect?”
""Why are certain things conveyed even though I don’t verbally express them?”
This workshop explores these questions from the perspective of theatrical drama-making, which constantly contemplates the act of ""conveying."" Discover effective ways of communicating and experience the joy of being understood through the art of theater!
Instructor
Shuji Fukuda (b. 1975, Nagasaki) is a playwright and director. He graduated from Nagasaki University's Faculty of Education. In 1997, he founded F's Company, of which he is both the representative and main playwright/director. His style is characterized by a delicate portrayal of emotional subtleties, and his works, written in the Nagasaki dialect, convey a unique warmth. Outside of his theater group activities, he has leveraged his experience with community-based productions in Nagasaki to create spaces where people of all ages can enjoy the creative process together. His work frequently draws on the local history and traditions of various regions. In recent years, he has been involved in various projects and workshops that use theater as a medium to connect people and foster social cohesion. With the aim of establishing theater as a form of entertainment in Nagasaki, he opened a small local theater called Atelier PentA in 2018 , where he continues to work as a director. His notable works include "Machikui no Uta (A Song of Machikui)," "Keshite Kienai Hi (A Fire That Never Vanishes)," and "Noisy". He is currently serving as the head of the Kyushu branch of the Japan Playwrights Association (2024–).
About Kitacube
Through the power of performing arts, such as theater and dance, we offer programs tailored to a wide range of audiences under the theme of “Encounter, Discovery, and Creation.” Like a Rubik’s Cube, we aim to combine the different facets of individuals and the theater, blending elements such as “self × artist (performing arts) × others” to create intersections, expand perspectives, and generate new values.
