Thirty years since its premiere, UNETSU is reborn.
Sankai Juku, a Butoh company, known with its beauty of dance and stage art, has contributed most to promote and disseminate the Butoh form of dance, that deals with gravity and the internal emotions of dancers rather than their speed or leap often appreciated in western dances, in the world where it gave their performances in 47 countries since 1975.
“UNETSU-The Egg Stands out of Curiosity” first world-premiered at Theatre de la Ville, Paris in 1986, and toured in more than 140 cities in 33 countries since then. This masterpiece of late 1980s will be reborn for the first time at Kitakyushu Performing Arts Center by giving the solo dance parts of Amagatsu, founder and choreographer, to its younger dancers. World-premiere of this re-creation. “UNETSU-The Egg Stands out of Curiosity” talks to audiences on life and death, its circulation, and the universe...
